Student Leaders

Our Student Leader programme enables students in Years 8-11 to play an active role in supporting our school, the local community and promoting worthwhile projects to the rest of our student body.

Student Leaders will work within a specific team to promote change within the school community. They will have the opportunity to support key initiatives the school is working towards and fight for what young people believe in. Most crucially, it is down to the students to determine what and how they want to lead and promote change in the school community.

Teams are supported by a members of staff who can help guide and support Student Leaders in their activities and approaches. However that member of staff is there for advice only. The student leaders are expected to coordinate meetings, collaborate with members of staff and lead on their initiatives

Student Leaders are able to develop a vast array of skills and experiences that are valuable in all aspects of their life. Taking part in the programme will also give students the chance to collect evidence needed to complete the <Futures Award>. (Link to Futures Award page)

We are extremely proud of our Student Leaders, they are outstanding young people who have proved that when they work together, anything is possible.

Student Leadership Groups give students at Woodbrook Vale School the opportunity to learn lots of different skills and make a difference in our local community, both in school and beyond.

How do these skills help students?

These skills will make students better learners in school, they will help them to be more open to change, and give them more confidence to manage whatever situation presents itself.

Student will be able to talk about their experiences as a Student Leader in college and job applications in the future.  These are the types of skills future employers are looking for.

Anti-Bullying & Wellbeing Team 

Role Description

As part of the Anti-Bullying & Wellbeing team, you will have the opportunity to promote positive wellbeing around school and look at how you can support each other when in school. This may involve being trained as a peer mentor, or utilising resources from the Anti-Bullying Diana Award. You may consider how you can encourage each other to become more resilient and how you can help others that could be struggling. How you do this will be down to you.

Staff Support

Mrs Lewis and Mr Burt will give you advice when needed and help you to coordinate any interventions that you may choose to implement.

Digital Leaders Team
 

ROLE DESCRIPTIONS

As part of the Digital Leaders Team, you will explore ways to help improve the online safety for our students. This will involve taking part and planning assemblies as well and being the student voice for issues and new trends that affect our students. You will also raise awareness of Cyber-bullying and be a designated person for students to go to with issues or concerns around social media and gaming.  This role may involve supporting other students.

STAFF SUPPORT

Mr Danby will give you advice when needed, help you to coordinate any tasks and support you with responses to queries on e-safety.

Diversity Team 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As part of the Diversity Team, you will have the opportunity to celebrate diversity in and around  Woodbrook Vale School. This may involve supporting nationwide events such as promoting Pride Month or Black History Month or campaigns such as ‘Black Lives Matter’. Part of the role may include supporting students who want to learn more about diversity. You will be expected to encourage an open and inclusive ethos to difference at Woodbrook Vale School such as promoting understanding, respect and tolerance around diversity.

STAFF SUPPORT

Miss Benfield will give you advice when needed and help you to coordinate any tasks that you may need support with.

Strategic Oversight Team 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As part of the Strategic Oversight team, you will be involved in whole school data collection and surveys, canvasing for views and opinions on important matters. Last year the team completed the student consultation for new school skirts and planners. This valuable work meant that the school leadership team could make an informed decision of which direction to move towards.

STAFF SUPPORT:

Mrs Moors will give you advice when needed and help you to coordinate strategic actions.

Eco Award Team 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As part of the Eco Award Team, you will support the school in achieving the Eco Award by helping the whole school community become more eco friendly. This may involve raising awareness, presenting to your peers or introducing school wide initiatives – really, it is up to you!

Mrs Diaper and Miss Wilson will give you advice when needed and help you to coordinate any tasks that you may need support with.

Transition Team 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As part of the Transition Team, you will have the unique opportunity to consider how we can offer a student focussed transition programme for children during a global pandemic. How can we be creative with our approach and how can we support new students at Woodbrook Vale School. You could  be involved in virtual events or develop a strategy for any student struggling with a transition phase in school.
